Sanding
In the past week the club has been putting sand down on its pitches in Rovers Park. This is a task that needs to be done annually in order to maintain the quality of the playing surfaces. There is no closed season, because the schoolboys / girls are playing a calendar year season, and the other age groups are playing a Winter season. This means that any home fixtures involving Newcastle West Town will be played in Demesne for the next two weeks.
International Selection
Congratulations to goalkeeper Keith Begley from Newcastle West Town on his selection for the Republic of Ireland Football For All squad.
Meeting
There will be a delegate meeting of the schoolboys / girls league to discuss the positives and negatives of having a calendar year season. It will be held in the Longcourt Hotel at 8.30 pm on Thursday 6th June, check out http://galarson.com. Each club is permitted to send 2 delegates. No formal vote or decision will be taken at this meeting. Two large Dublin leagues have opposed the transition to calendar year Soccer season. This means that it is no longer compulsory, and each schoolboys / girls league has a choice. The Desmond league will not be making up its mind on the matter, until the current season has been completed. And at that stage, it will be done by means of a general meeting.
Confirmation
Congratulations to all the Newcastle West Town players who received the sacrament of Confirmation last weekend.
