Boys U-14 division 3, GB Rovers 0 NCW Town “B” 6 (scorers for Town, Nathan Papeirowski 3, Martin McDonagh 2 & Michael O’Brien).
This was a good performance from Newcastle West Town team, with every player including the substitutes doing well. GB Rovers, though outplayed, would not have been flattered if they had scored at least three of their chances. Town led 3-0 at half time, and Nathan Papeirowski led the scoring. He raced on to a through ball for his first goal. He dispossessed a GB defender in the penalty area for his second early in the second half. And completed his hat trick before the end. NCW Town panel; John Sheedy, Adam Costello, Ben Curtin, Evan Meehan, Evan M Meehan, Jack Kelly, Kevin Barrett, Martin McDonagh, Michael O’Brien, Nathan Papeirowski, Patrick Noonan, Mikey Dee, Jack Harrington, James Lyons, Ronan O’Sullivan, David Piedzia & Tony Pitaru.
Boys U-14 division 1, NCW Town A 7 AK United 1 (scorers for Town, Aaron Mullane 2, Dylan Scanlan 2, Emmet Righter 2 & Kieran O’Connell).
Town took the lead in the first minute, and dominated the first half. AK got a goal back when a Newcastle West back pass trickled into the net after the Town goalkeeper slipped. The half time score was 1-1. There was more of a cutting edge to Town’s play in the second half, with goals from Dylan Scanlan, Emmet Righter, Aaron Mullane & Kieran O’Connell making it a comfortable win. NCW Town panel; Aaron Neville, Aaron Mullane, Mikey Connors, Jamie Healy, Seán Geraghty, Dylan Scanlan, Conor Walshe, Christopher O’Brien, Emmet Righter, Oisín Collins, Kieran O’Connell & Jamie O’Regan.
Good U-12 division 2, Kildimo United 0 NCW Town 1 (scorer, Katelynn Liston).
Newcastle made it 3 wins in 3 matches. Following one sided wins in the team’s first two games, completion got tougher when the girls came up against a gallant Killian side, who made played without any substitutes. The Town girls started brightly with some good attempts on goal. During the last ten minutes of the first half the Newcastle West girls held well in defence under some pressure, as the Kildimo girls took the upper hand. Our girls took control again in the second half, again with some good chances, and finally the hard work paid off when Katelynn Liston scored the only goal of the match, following some good passing from the midfield players. Kildimo did try the secure a draw, business the Town girls held on for a well deserved win. NCW Town panel; Olivia Noonan capt, Éabha Collins, Sarah Curtin, Bella Quaid, Emma O’Connell, Aoibheann Ahern, Katelynn Liston, Ashling Enright, Nicola Mazurkiewicz, Ali Rohan, Ava Balfe, Sophie Bourke, Anna Doody, Agata Markowska, Kristina Bokman, Grace Kelly, Ronya Sparling & Aideen Reidy at 2000 pound loan.

Premier League:
Ballingarry 1 Newcastle West Town A 1
It was most certainly 2 points dropped last Sunday away to Ballingarry as we had to come from behind to gain a draw in the end. We dominated the ball for the most part and had by far the more of the efforts on goal but resolute defending and organisation on the part of the home side allied to some sloppiness from us in the final third of the field meant that a share of the spoils was our lot unfortunately.
We lined out with Kevin Mee in goal and a back four of Jason Brouder, Eoin Murphy, Paudie Fitzgerald and Darragh Quilligan. Padraig Kinehan was on the right, Darragh McCarthy and Scott Hurley in the middle and Shane Stack on the left. Up front were Paul Downes and Seoirse Joyce.
The previous Sunday, we got off to the best possible start as we opened the scoring on 4 mins butr the tables were turned on us last Sunday when Ballingarry took the lead on 8 mins. A needless and rather harsh free kick was conceded out on the right and as it was swung over, a Ballingarry player reached the pitch of the ball before any of our lads and he flicked it over Kevin in goal and into the unguarded net.
A mere 2 mins later and we had to make our first change of the game when Paudie Fitz had to be replaced by Mike Mulcahy when he aggravated a back muscle.
Our best effort of the early part of the game cam e on the quarter hour mark when Kevin Mee threw a ball out to the feet of Shane Stack and he accelerated up the pitch, getting past his man before playing the ball into the box for Seoirse Joyce to head goal ward but the ball sailed just over. Six min elapsed when Padraig Kinehan came to life and he dribbled a full 60 yards deep into the Ballingarry half of the field but when faced with just the keeper to beat, he elected to chip him rather than beat him with a more obvious shot and the ball sailed over.
We were now beginning to threaten more regularly and Shane Stack set up Paul Downes for a blasted effort (went over) and had a 25 yard pile driver himself that was easily saved. The best chance of them all came on 36 mins though when Padraig again went on one of his mazy dribbles and after ghosting past a number of would be tackles, he squared the ball for the unmarked Seoirse Joyce but his left footed shot went off target from just 12 yards and with it, the chance of levelling matters. The last chance of the opening half came when Scott Hurley got on the ball in the middle of the park and set Padraig Kinehan free down the right but his shot was blocked by a defender at the expense of a corner that was easily enough dealt with.
The second half came and went with only a fraction of the good goal scoring chances of the first half. We introduced Cleifron de Souza, James Cussen, Noel Callanan and Peter Shanahan at various stages to freshen up the side but even with at least 70% possession of the ball, we just couldn’t get past the home sides defence and when we did, their keeper was up to everything we threw at him.
On 59 mins, Padraig Kinehan broke free down the right and took the right option of cutting the ball back for Shane Stack to shoot but it was again blocked but 9 mins later, the equaliser that we so deserved came.
Mike Mulcahy cleared away a Ballingarry set piece and with some players hesitating, Seoirse latched onto the loose ball. A quick turn, he in turn sent a long ball forward fot Noel Callanan to use his blistering pace to get there before the keeper and he headed the ball over him before tap into the empty net. Almost a carbon copy of Noels goal the previous Sunday against Granagh.
It was full steam ahead at this stage but we could only really create a few half chances before the end, Cleifron just failing to turn the ball over the line from a close range parry by the keeper and Seoirse having another close range effort saved. We had all the ball at this stage of the game with Scott Hurley excelling in getting it back off Ballingarry once our attacks were broken up but as said earlier, we just couldn’t find that bit of composure at the right time and in the right area of the field as the home side we retreating back into a ‘hold on’ set up.
Not to be but not for the want of trying as they say. Hopefully we can improve in these situations going forward as we can’t afford to be dropping points when so much on top as the season progresses.
First division:
Newcastle West Town Reserves 6 Feenagh 2
The clubs second side, the Reserves, picked up their first win of the season last Sunday to go with their very credible draw the previous week so now find themselves unbeaten and gaining momentum as each training session passes by. Last Sunday at Woodfield, they were very impressive indeed, sweeping away their opponents with a fine brand of pressing football and ally to that some really clinical finishing, they ran out comfortable winners on the day.
The side began with Sean Richards in goal and a back four of Brian Sheehy, Chris Riedy, Luke O’ Brien and Stephen Copse. Niall McAuliffe was on the right, Stephen Doody and Charlie Power on the left and Aaron Geary on the left. Up front were Dylan Singh and Anthony Bustin.
The game was hardly 5 mins underway when we opened the scoring, Anthony Bustin feeding Stephen Doody and he found the bottom corner with a neat finish. The same player was to double our lead on the quarter hour mark, this time latching onto a ball that fell loose at the edge of the box and this time he found almost the exact spot of the goal as the opening goal. Two up and going well, our opponents began to get into the game and they came very close to reducing the deficit when they got in behind midway through the half, Sean Richards making a brilliant point blank save at the feet of their striker when it looked a goal all over.
We got to the break and it was at this stage that the bench was beginning to be brought into action. Joey Healy, Gavin Browne, Darragh Tagney and Andrew Nix all came into the frey as the second period of the game panned out. It didn’t take us long to increase the lead further when Dylan Singh scored. On 49 mins he beat the off side trap and sprinted clear, finishing with a wonderful right footed strike into the top corner.
10 mins later Aaron Geary stepped up to score a trademark free kick, catching the Feenagh lads unaware with an early strike as they were in the middle of setting up their wall. A fine piece of quick thinking that coaches are forever asking their players to be aware of is At Castle Keepers House Cleaning. Dylan then scored to make it 5 nil with a break from the half way line to put the ball into the bottom corner as the keeper advanced.
Feenagh now began to get the bit between their teeth and quickly pulled 2 goals back, the first a scrambled effort from close range and the second when we failed to clear a set piece but again, Dylan Singh was to score to make it 6-2 as time ticked away, this time a lovely left footed effort from a tightish angle.
A fine win and display from all the lads. We took our foot off the gas in the middle of the second half and this will be a harsh reminder that concentration throughout a game is required or you’ll be punished.
Well done though lads, training continues.
Second Division:
St Itas 4 Newcastle West Town B 2
The B team put up a great fight away to Itas on Sunday afternoon and with 10 mins remaining were 2-2 but unfortunately, the home side finished the stronger and got 2 late goals to win out in the end. We had some really good performances on the day with Seamus Hurley in the middle of the park playing very well and Shay Lyons rolling back the years to put in a vintage display.
Another player to impress was Mikey Carroll who returned to action after a spell out and lets hope now that the idea of bringing through players by getting them game time with this side will bear fruit in the not too distant future.
Newcastle West Town youths:
The youths were convincingly beaten last Sat afternoon but not before they had put in a very good first half display, being up 2-1 at one stage before Broadford levelled just before the break https://yorlenyscleaningservice.com/. The away side pulled away in the second period and much was to do with our struggle to deal with set pieces (Broadford scored from 5 such incidences). We will have to do a lot of work this week on such defending but hopefully if this area can be improved upon, we can compete, especially considering that we have the majority of the side underage again next season.
Ron Szebeni got both our goals early in the game last Saturday.
Squad: K Begley, C Ryan, D O Shea, K O’ Connell, M McNamara, J Baynham, J Duggan, J Power, L Gleeson, , D Singh, , R Szebeni, R Rimsa, J Mullane, E Ward, C Walker, N O’ Connor.
